Stamets and Hugh LGBT affair dull and annoying

While Anthony Rapp is a great actor, and somewhat more believable, his counterpart is not. They lack chemistry, and the lines they say to each other are cheesy. Imagine if a straight couple would be saying those same lines in 2019 about how they loved each other etc. You'd dismiss it as a soapy camp straight away. If the idea is to introduce LGBT romance to the mainstream, then make the characters and the relationship between them more believable. This way it seems like it was shoehorned just for the stats.
