Off to a great start

I have enjoyed the first 3 episodes so far and especially the new crew in episode 3. I look forward to the rest of the series.

It definitely appears that Michael's character was written for a white male but the actress has done a good job so far. The writing from netflix is usually over the top at pushing a feminist and SJW narrative most of the time, which would be very out of place in the star trek world because strong women have always been a part of the cast. It is great to see that the writing has not been infected with this sort of awful "try hard" non sense that I have seen in other netflix series. If they keep it up the series will do well.

The subsequent episodes have been a pleasant surprise to me, considering the premier, and add to the hope that the show might end up decent enough in the long run. Why they chose to air the crappiest episode of the three publicly in a bid to attract viewers, I'll never understand, but I've come to the conclusion that I'll just never understand corporate culture, so, yeah.

Actually Sonequa Martin-Green was cast pretty early as I understand, and it seems Bryan Fuller's thing is to give his female leads traditionally male names for whatever reason, so it's not necessarily true that they changed their casting choice. I don't know for sure though. Maybe someone else has solid info on that.

In any case, it's looking like an interesting story so far. I like the new characters from ep 3 too. I'm concerned they
captured the monster
, and I'm very curious to see what the captain is going to do next, as well as how those
spores
are going to play into the story for the long run, since we haven't seen this in other ST series that take place later in the timeline.

Why does it "definitely" appear that Michael's character was written for a "white male"?

What characteristics of white males does she posses that indicate the role was written for one?
