I'm sure this may be a decent movie, but right off the bat I thought, heck, this sure ain't no Patton.

You're right. It ain't no Patton. And you did the right thing by abandoning the idea of watching this movie. It is below decent.

If you are looking for a deep, psychological war film then Dunkirk will disappoint you. If you want an entertaining action thriller then it will probably at least give you your money's worth.

To be honest, I thought the movie was quite boring too. Dunkirk might be visually stunning, it's still the only worthwhile thing about the movie.

Yes, the movie didn't need to be told in a non-linear way. Dunkirk was just an all around big disappointment.

Good call. I gave it half/three quarters of an hour before I caved in. Just a horror to the ears, mind, history-buff and movie-lover in me. That this drivel is considered among the top movies of 2017 is beyond me.
