Is Beau emotioanlly abusvie to his sons?

I know Beau doesn't intend to, it is played for laughs, and I am not trying to be overly sensitive, but does Beau come across as emotionally abusive his anyone else? Compare to any list I find on line he almost reads like a check list.

He is controlling, emotionally unavailable, can barely display affection or admit they have done something correct, makes it clear he thinks they are incompetent idiots, and constantly questions and criticizes everything they do. He tends to blame them for things that are not even their fault.

As a result, one is a borderline alcoholic and the other is an irresponsible slacker. Yes, it is partly on them as well, but as Maggie pointed out he never game them a reason to be more responsible. Either nothing was good enough, he personally oversaw every aspect of something or needed his approval or he did it himself. I think anyone would kind of give up under all of that.
