Ruth Negga's Acting

There's something that really bugged me about this movie, it was a good story (but extremely slow) and it was Ruth Negga's acting, she was so dry, and would never change her facial expression, always looking dull and confused, even when she gets the great-law-changing news, she remains so dull as if they called her reminding her of a bill she had to pay. It made it look weird while Joel Edgerton did a great job, i don't know if it bugged anyone else

I realize that I'm late to this party but you have to look at the lack of expression and quiet demeanor within the context of the time and times lived in. Black folks had to learn to keep their emotions under control living in "Jim Crow" south. May I suggest reading the book, "The Warmth of Other Suns" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Warmth_of_Other_Suns by Isabel Wilkerson that records the oral history of those who did the Great Migration from the south to the north. Unless you understand the environment you will never understand why the acting was the way it was.

That was Mrs Lovings demeanor and R's too
They were pretty low key it's what makes the haraasment even more foul.
That hard to be a challenge while keeping it compelling

Yeah, I thought that too. She has a wonderful, pregnant, constant presence through the movie, but when she received the telephone call, I was waiting to see something extra. Maybe it's just how Mrs. Loving was like.

Nope, I guess I saw something completely different in the performance and thought she was wonderful - as was Edgerton.
