The ending

What did you think of the mysterious ending? It could have been a normal city seen from a distance, but to me it seemed to be some sort of alien landscape, with a highly placed flame going off periodically, perhaps on a monolith.

I'll have to watch it again. I was very impressed by the artistry and mood of this beautiful and odd film.

Although totally different in plot, the strange and surreal atmosphere of this film reminds me of a French book I read when I was a kid. It was called in English "The Other Side of the Mountain" (La Montagne Morte de La Vie) by Michel Bernanos.
