Realistic characters, yes

I enjoyed this movie, on second try. At first couldn't get over how nasty she was in the coffee shop. I still think it was overdone. Maybe it was supposed to be funny? Wasn't funny for me. But, yes, for sure there are people like that. The only moment I appreciated was when she said the room used to be part of an abortion clinic. I get that she was angry, but I also see she failed to keep in touch with that part of the community. It happens.

Anyway, despite what the bible-thumpers and anti-abortionists claim in various posts here, yes, there are people like this who do all the crazy things in this movie, desperate things, things that don't work. And there are people who follow a life of poetry, or are gay and have children, etc, etc.

It was interesting the way dealing with the abortion situation brought them all together. Kinda healed the family, at least for that day. I like to think it would have a lasting effect, a bonding effect. I'm sure the bible-thumpers would hate that, and that makes me like it more.

Atheism for the win. One day most people will evolve past silly antiquated ideas they use for comfort and for power over others.

One thing that was quite unexplained is how the former bf retained his home and wealth, apparently, after four wives. Maybe they were all self-supporting and he didn't have any kids? I can only assume that. It's more common for men to have a major lifestyle downgrade after divorce, because of child support or supporting a wife who was the primary caregiver over many years.

I thought the coffee shop seen was entertaining. It was effectively demonstrates that she doesn't know how to get along with people and acts in self-defeating ways. (The coffee shop manager wasn't much better and should've taken a different approach, too.) Plus, I liked how she pointed out his passive-aggressive language was stupid.

Manager: "I'm going to have to ask you to leave."
...
Elle: "Oh, you mean you're asking me to leave now."
