I was rooting for the blind guy all the way

I don't get why so many wanted him dead. He was the innocent victim here people! He did nothing wrong! You are blind and you have 3 armed intruders, what are you suppose to do? It's self defense! I was really hoping that all 3 of the kids were killed, especially the g-thug wannabe Eminem gangster. Maybe Im the only one here who felt this way. I was really hoping that the damn blonde tramp got impregranted by him and killed. I couldn't stand her. I was so upset when she was whaling on him at the end with a crowbar and able to walk away with the money.

reply

He wasn't innocent, but I didn't want him dead. Felt bad for them taking advantage of his condition, really.

reply

Maybe not innocent but certainly not evil. His daughter was taken from him and now he believes the woman that took his daughter owes him one. Really any worse than how we accept in a movie when someone decides to kill another for revenge?

This is where people's definition of evil will differ. He kidnapped a girl and kept her prisoner in his basement for at least several months and impregnated her against her will. I understand having motive but yeah, I think that's "evil". But then again I don't believe in Evil with a capital E if you know what I mean.

reply

Oh yea, he also killed her and the baby. By accident I know, but that's also significant in this case, I would say.

reply

I felt pity for him until the reveal that the kidnapped girl was forcibly impregnated by him and was going to do the same to Rocky, Jane Levy's character. I could maybe say that his isolation is what could of turned him into this monster. His daughter could been his only attachment to humanity. And when her life was taken away, he became all alone in a world where he sees nothing and is in total darkness. So his attempt to have a child was in some disturbing way was to fill the void of his lost daughter so he would no longer be left alone. But by the end I really upset that not only did the blind man survive but the media painted him as being an innocent victim.

reply

Lang was NOT a monster. He was trying to teach these punks a lesson that you need to be accountable for your actions. I really wish he had impregnanted the blonde tramp, I couldnt stand her.

reply

Pretty sure he wasn't trying to teach them a lesson. Looked like he wanted to kill them to keep them from revealing his secret to the police.

reply

Agree with the OP. All 3 of the robbers were terrible people.

reply

And the blind man was such a good person?

reply

No..

I think the blind man was a good man once... But went crazy or mentally unstable.

His crime of kidnapping a girl who killed his daughter in order get her pregnant to give him a child... Is a mentally disturbed person desperate for a child.

As someone mentioned here... He saw his daughter as his only way to stay human and him wanting a child is him desperate to become "normal" again... Somehow relieved to have a child. He is mentally unstable and part time crazy.

I think he would of released the kidnapped girl once she gave birth... He will then get arrested... Go to jail or a mental hospital... But knowing he has a child... Will give him peace for the rest of his life.

He is no angel... Disturbed... Desperate... Vengeful... But not naturally evil.

Rocky and Money were greedy and deserves punishment.. Alex is just stupid for being so in love with a girl who doesnt him back.

I started to completely lose rooting on him the part when he said, 'There's no God.'

People who believe in God are better than people who don't believe the existence of Him. In what judgement or opinion you give about it, I'm rooting for the people who believe in God no matter what despite him or her being the most devil person in the universe.

lmao...what a numbskull

So by your estimation, Mark David Chapman was a better person than John Lennon?

Congratulations on one of the most stupid statements I've ever read.

reply

grindingaxe, please do us Christians a favor and stay off our side, assuming you think of yourself as Christian at all.

reply

This is completely offensive. So if you believe in the existence of a magical being who lives in the clouds, you are automatically better than those who question it? believe whatever you want man. just don't attack people who believe differently.

Are you one of those people who like to "play God"? You sound like it, or you think you know better... I'm an atheist and I'm a good person, I'm a hell of a lot better than some people who commit crimes all week and go to church on sunday and ask to be forgiven and think that they ARE!

nope.. posted the same thing before even laying eyes on the movie. I was robbed at gunpoint before inside of my home in front of my children.. so pardon me for feeling any pitty. This movie should be a lesson not to eff around with ppl and their possessions. I wish I had his skillets.

Your defective sense of judgment and your inability to discern which of two evils, one involving kidnapping, rape, and murder and the other involving theft, is greater unsettle me.

Catch me when you can, Mishter Lusk.

^^This.

Wait. So breaking into a house deserves death but kidnapping, rape, and murder deserves sympathy? What the...?

reply

I was definitely rooting for him. Those punk kids had it coming.

BIG SPOILERS BELOW*********************

Yes, the Blind Man was very much evil, but Rocky, Alex and Money went a little beyond theft. They started out knowing they were stealing from a disabled veteran and probably taking all the money he had in the world. That's not the same as stealing some jewelry, probably insured, from a rich person's house.

As far as we could tell, Money was conscienceless psychopath. Alex was the most sympathetic character in the movie, but he was also dim-witted and thinking with his little head, not his big head.

Rocky, in particular, was a selfish and terrible person. She used the fact that Alex had a crush on her to entice him into participating in something he didn't want to do, something that was both wrong and dangerous. She manipulated him into risking at least a long prison sentence; they knew that much going in. Later, when he could have escaped quietly and left her to her fate, Alex - sad, sweet, pathetic, friend-zoned Alex - rescues her from the Blind Man, an act that ultimately leads to his death.

After all that, saying "Oh, Alex, I'm so sorry [that I got you killed]" isn't quite enough.

Pasting on a transparent, comic-book motive doesn't help either, except to let the filmmakers show the hot chick in a sympathetic light. If she were older or unattractive, they would have felt free to portray her as evil as she actually was.

I was not rooting for the Blind Man, but I was the rooting for the dog.

reply

To the OP and anyone who agrees with him or her: you are seriously disturbed.

Yes, the kids broke into the guy's house. That's not okay. But HE KIDNAPPED A WOMAN, HELD HER AGAINST HER WILL, AND THEN SEXUALLY ASSAULTED HER. That is straight up wrong. And when those kids did break into his house, instead of, I dunno, calling the police, he tried to kill all of them. HE IS EVIL.

reply

Yo R-E-L-A-X this isn't the 11 o'clock news covering an actual story. It's a fooken movie for crying out loud. The beauty of a movie we can all debate which character we would like to root for
"What do you think this is, the Army? Where you shoot 'em a mile away?"

reply

You do realize that he had kidnapped and imprisoned a woman, right? And that he had forced her to become pregnant with his child? He had committed many crimes before these kids broke into his house. He was not a good guy.

reply

I agree. This movie teaches you to rob people with disabilities and then expect us to cheer for her kidnapping her little sister and living off stolen money.

reply

im not sure if this is rooting for the blind guy but for some reason I was hoping Alex turning out alive was a dream and that rocky was really trapped and impregnated.i have no idea why I feel the way I do but I'm not sure how o felt about the thinking Alex was dead fake outs.i wonder if I'm a horrible person or if seeing someone who could be a bad guy win at the end is interesting

reply

Alex has his own moral code - very "Old Testament", you know. But at least he has one, unlike the others. If I were forced to deal with one of them, the best choice would be Alex since at least he's not going to stab you in the back just for his own material benefit though he might if you had crossed him earlier. As to whether his diy fertility clinic activities can be morally justified, that is a sticky question in more ways than one.
