Why even bother "including" Harry

We never see him or get any closure on his situation (seriously, the show just forgets about it at the end) so whats even the point? There's not even any fan service value since we never see him.

He was such an integral part of the original show for starters. It would how been absurd to just blow off his character entirely. The way the character was included in Season 3 allowed for him to be a part of it, despite not actually appearing.

I also suspect, Lynch wanted to leave the door open for Truman (Michael Ontkean) to be a part of a future TP project, should a future project materialize.

Lastly, I certainly don't need or want any "fan service" in any way, shape, or form.

“Future project!” 😂😂😂😂🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

Right.

reply

Right.

The hope for a future project grows dimmer and dimmer. Yet, for me anyway, the hope still remains. Lynch's "Unrecorded Night" project was definitely in the works before the pandemic hit. Preproduction was definitely in swing, however, between the aforementioned pandemic and the Netflix deal evaporating it's hard to know what -- if anything -- will ever come of it.

Aside from that the question remains: Was the a project related to Twin Peaks? My hunch is that it was, or is, at least in the TP's universe and entirely related. Though it may have been entirely TP's. We may never know.

Still keeping my fingers crossed. For Lynch to regain the interest and for the funding to materialize. But I also think it will have to happen within the next two years if it's going to happen at all.

I think Lynch is done with Twin Peaks. S3 was a gigantic project that featured many of his old collaborators, it ended on a perfect note of trauma and mystery, and Lynch is too old to be embarking on another project of that scale.

reply

True. But it doesn't have to be on that scale. And I think the missing page, that is, Carrie Page, is a tie-in with Twin Peaks, but also isn't TP's at the same time. So while I agree TP's went out on a perfect note, it also went out with a wide open door to a potential sequel -- whether a short series or a standalone film.

So either way, it's perfect.

I just can’t see him diluting the mystery he created after an 18 hour epic, especially with him approaching 80.

After Inland Empire (2006), Lynch took roughly 10 years off before making Twin Peaks (2017).

If Lynch has another future project, I won't expect it until 2025 through 2030. But I am not holding my breath either. Twin Peaks Season 3 was beautiful. Really, more than enough for what we need. I loved it. It's fine if it Lynch's last project. Really, Season 3 felt like the conclusion of all his work.

reply

Exactly. It was his magnum opus, a giant canvas on which to finally wrap up the unfinished business of Twin Peaks, and involve all his favourite people.

The story of Laura Palmer - the sun that all the other elements revolve around - has been well and truly told, there’s no way Lynch is going to spoil that, and the carefully calibrated ending full of deliberate mystery, with some bonus content in the last few years of his life.

I’d love to see another feature film from Lynch but, as you point out with the example of Inland Empire, dude is very happy to potter around making art and music and go decades without making any film work.
If he can strike a deal with Netflix then we might see something, but it’s very likely that we’ve seen the last of David Lynch’s filmmaking career.

reply

Twin Peaks Season 3 was entirely directed by Lynch. It was 18 hours of work from him. Really, that's much more content than all the films that he's done...People are not realizing how much Season 3 really is.

It's very neglectful to want more from Lynch, when we already have Season 3. Season 3 is a lot of things, and people really haven't analyzed it enough. I love Season 3 and it's more than enough for me. I would be completely fine if Season 3 was Lynch's last film project.

I'm kinda afraid Lynch's next film can't match the quality of Season 3. I love Season 3 more than all his previous films. That's how great I think it is.

Rumours are resurfacing of Unrecorded Night: https://youtu.be/TCIspWfF_MA

If he does make another film/series then I suspect it would be a very experimental, homemade project like Inland Empire.

It's interesting to see who returned and who remained absent for Season 3.

Truman lost Josie in Season 2 and then he goes on to lose Cooper in the Season 2 finale. I think that wrecked him inside. He was already wrecked with losing Josie beforehand. Many characters truly have their end in the Season 2 finale. Like Donna, Leo, Windom, Pete, Andrew, Catherine, etc.

Truman's issues in the episodes of Season 2 were too traumatic. And Cooper's reunion with everyone in Part 17 was short, so we would only see Cooper and Harry for a minute basically anyway in Part 17 even if he had returned.
