....her character ‘Cori’ looked as though she was quite a close friend of Gus in the first few episodes. He called her from Mickey’s friend’s party when he was feeling anxious etc. Anyway, where did she vanish to?

That’s what I was wondering too. I’m guessing the actress was busy with other engagement or she didn’t want to do the role anymore.

I suppose so. That’s the only thing that felt jarring to me....that a character that seemed pivotal to one of the protagonist’s just vanished. Otherwise, the show managed to be realistic in my eyes.

Yes, I agree. It was weird she just disappeared, they could have at least mention her that she moved to another city or something. Love the show, shame it was cancelled. But still I was satisfied with the ending.

reply

Yes. Satisfying ending, and I like the way Gus’s flaws were subtly building up to the crescendo. Nicely done.

I often get the feeling that there are characters and plots that the writers envision that fall off. It's visible in a lot of shows. Friends, for instance, has Monica talking to another chef at work. It always felt like they were setting up that this was an out-of-group/work friend for Monica, but they realised that out-of-group isn't what the show was about.

So, my guess is that they wrote Gus this friendship character and then as they wrote more episodes they just didn't need/want that character around.
