That dialog is so artificial it embarrasses me. You'd half expect someone to say things like that in a 70s family drama and the fact they are likely using it in hipste/ironic sense is but making it worse.

It doesn't make any difference whether there were cigs in the original TV series or not and it's completely irrelevant. It's a contemporary re-imagining if you even understand what that means.

For example, was cell phones used/depicted in the original? No.
