How much does his open Liberal stance hurt his ratings?

Most late night talk shows are mostly politically neutral.Do you think he alienates the right and that takes a big hit to his ratings? Maybe helps explain why milquetoast Jimmy Kimmel is whooping him in ratings?

Edit- I meant Jimmy Fallon. Whoops

This guy is horrible. I watched his show because it was just on last night and not only was his liberal agenda incredibly dull and exhausting but then his first guest was a black actress and Colbert was extremely racist the entire time. I couldn't believe what I saw.

reply

Totally outrageous! They wasted the time that could have been spent opining whether or not Rene Zellweger is still hot.

I missed that episode and watched in online to see how "extremely racist" Colbert was with Tracee Ellis Ross. Did I miss something? Where was the extreme racism? Please elaborate.

reply

ya and how does that racism compute with the so called liberal agenda?

reply

Seriously, coop032 - I would like to know what he did or said that was so racist.

reply

I don't know how anyone can watch this at all anymore. His political motivations are sickening.

- Made fun of Bernie during his campaign when he was vs Hillary.
- Only made fun of Hillary after Bernie lost the nomination (due to corrupt DNC).
- Supported Bernie only after he lost the nomination to Hillary.
- Now just makes fun of Donald Trump, meanwhile Trump isn't a politician and has never been in politics--Hillary has, for 30 years, yet he acts as if Trump and Bush have been President for the last 8 years. He is so absolutely stupid.

When you have one of the many TV show's that Americans now and then want to tune in to before heading to bed, you don't bash half the nation, which is exactly what he's doing.

reply

the irony about it is that, everyone is seeing right through his bullshít, just like you did, and so he's effectively damaging the liberal cause. he's generating hate for the DNC, not support. but he's too stupid to understand that.

reply

Agreed. The only funny thing about Colbert is, he's preaching liberalism one moment and then tries to convert his guests to Jesus religion the next.

It's funny but also a bit freaky.

reply

open liberal? are you serious? I'm a liberal. he's not. here are some typical no-no's for a true liberal, and he trampled over all of them:

1) don't be racist

- he's a raging slavophobe. he can't go one episode w/o attacking Putin and russia, and he has made fun of Melania Trump (slovenian), which are not the only examples, but are the most notable.

2) don't be homophobic

- in hopes of offending Putin, he represented him as a gay... not even funny, it's was just homophobic.

3) don't put someone's beliefs in front of rights of other people

- he was very hostile to atheists, and he's loud defender of muslims - which also makes him hater of women, and gays. oh yeah, *bnam.

4) don't body shame

- made fun of trump about his hair cut, complexion, size of his hands and so on.

5) don't burn books

- he's not only lying, he's known for silencing any sort of opposing view. last time I watched he was making fun of alex jones, which sure, is unpleasant, but that guy at least doesn't lie.

so that's 5 for 5. there are more rules for a liberal, but he broke enough of them to simply be disqualified as a liberal.

*bnam = but not all muslims

Remember the days when late night shows were about comedy and variety rather than liberal politics? Colbert is just another liberal idiot spreading the word about things in America he knows nothing about. He is living an insulated life in NYC and knows nothing about what is happening in the rest of America as we speak. We are not dumb, uneducated, racist, facist as he insinuates, but struggling, impoverished, victims of immigration policies...yes, the liberals all want to talk about gun control and how guns hurt people, but what about the thousands and thousands of Americans hurt by immigrants who have been raped, and robbed and assaulted and murdered by this country and its immigration policy and Colbert does not mention any of this. Look at any jail roster in this country. Look at any wanted/warrant list for any county in this country and you will see hundreds and thousands of immigrants who have done damage to American citizens and no one cares. Colbert you are a closed-minded idiot. A clown for the liberals who tells his pre-fab jokes without any realization of the true happenings in this country. Time to grow up Colbert and face the truth.

reply

and let's not forget those minstrel shows. oh boy, why don't they bring em back. oh and smoking in elevators .. we are losing the country ... we are losing the country. oh boy oh boy.

He's suddenly #1 in total viewers, surpassing Fallon, so apparently it doesn't hurt him much now that Trump is president. There was a very sudden shift in the last two weeks. Fallon got his lowest ever rating on Tonight last Monday.

most people have liberal as well as conservative views, depending on the subject matter. only an idiot parts the world into black and white. so if he alienates those that do, i doubt he cares, because i that's most likely not his target audience.

"Maybe helps explain why milquetoast Jimmy Fallon is whooping him in ratings? "

Fallon has a completely different kind of humor.

reply

When Colbert was in character, the humor was a lot more subtle - you had to at times think about the jokes made. The stuff he says now seems to be written for 5 year-olds - to a point where it's far from being funny and is often just plain dumb.

Basically, the writing in numerous talk shows has gone downhill in a big way. Trump should be a gold mine for talk shows like these, but all I see is fail, fail and fail. The president show had a show to be like the old colbert show, but the humor bits there are even weaker than the current colbert show, despite the fact that they have the most legit trump impersonator on the market.

They should all hire decent writers but it seems unlikely that this will happen -
