Bridge of Spies
I watched Bridge of Spies last night on YouTube. Tom Hanks was great as was all the others in the cast, Like Mark Rylance.
The ending was great also as Mark Rylance and Gary Frances Powers are exchange. of the Bridge.
While it was entertaining, it was nearly a work of fiction based upon real people. Many of the scenes in the film did not match what Donovan said in his book "Strangers on a Bridge". Giles Whittell's book "Bridge of Spies" and Francis Gary Power's book "Operation Overflight" also differ in many details.
Whittell's book details how Donovan nearly failed to pull off the exchange due to some errors on his part. I'm not ntrying to minimize Donovan's efforts in making the exchange. The film also is inaccurate in almost every detail regarding Power's employment by the CIA, his final flight and time in captivity in Russia. It also is inaccurate regarding Frederic Pyror's activities before and during his arrest and confinement. The film had the potential to be better if it stuck to the more interesting true story.
