A lot more fun the second time around

Just rewatched this one last night.

The first time around I was too busy comparing it to the first film and getting putt off by the absurdities of the plot. The second time around I went into it prepared to accept it for what it was, an over-the-top, completely implausible action film.

I found that adjusting my expectations helped a lot. I had a lot of fun with the movie and think it's going to be one I rewatch every few years. The big attack in the first act is obviously ridiculously unrealistic but it's well-staged and effective as an action sequence.

I also appreciate how overtly patriotic the film is, and how it chooses to throw political correctness overboard.

Yeah, I stand corrected. It's a good action movie.

Interesting, I remember not liking this at the theater. I wonder if I'd enjoy it more if I gave it another chance. I did like Angel Has Fallen and maybe that's because my expectations were rather low after this one.

You just might!

I really do think that expectations are key here. The first film was unexpectedly good and set somewhat of a high bar for the series. The second film didn't live up to its predecessor, but like I said, try going into it just looking for a good action movie with no real expectations beyond that and you'll probably have a good time.

It's Mike Banning kicking a lot of ass in a surprisingly gritty fashion, which ultimately is what these films are about. I had fun with it.

I did like it a tad better than the first one. It felt like a throwback to a Chuck Norris movie that would had been released in the '80s by Golan-Globus.
