The only thing I don't understand is the February calendar thing.

Can someone explain this to me? Kat is shown at the beginning being led outside by her "father" to a car accident, presumably with her mom in the car, right? Then she's shown crossing out the days on her calender leading up to when her parents pick her up. Valentine's Day is shown on the calendar, so it's obviously the month of February.

My question is, when did these take place? The school is supposed to be on WINTER break, right? Isn't winter break in December? Also, what was with her being led outside to the car? Was this a dream sequence, maybe brought on by the demonic presence inside her to let her know her parents had died?

Yeah, I don't know why their winter break is in February rather than December. And it's too early for spring break.

But I think Kat was just crazy. She had a premonition that her parents died in a car accident, which is why she's so nervous when they don't show up. She begins to become obsessed with staying at the school permanently, perhaps because she has no where else to go if her parents are dead. The "demon" uses the voice of her father on the phone and at one point asks if she wants to stay with him - which prompts her to begin killing everyone. When the demon leaves her body she asks it to stay with her. She eventually makes her way back to the school only to find the boiler room cold, suggesting the demon is gone, and starts to cry. This is most likely because her knowledge of her parents deaths caused her to go insane and she made up the demon.

K-12 schools in the northeast of the US have four vacations over the course of the school year: December (a week and a half or so), February (1 week), April (1 week), and summer. Colleges here have a much longer December/January break, spring break in March or April, and summer, but the school in this movie was clearly high school, not a college.

I assume this story takes place in the northeast, although I can't think of any place called Portsmith instead of Portsmouth (which to be fair is *pronounced* port's-mith) so it may take place in a made-up town up here.

Up here in Canada some provinces have a week off in Fenruary. So I assumed either it could have taken place up here or since this seemed to be a private school maybe they have this as a break between semesters.

It was a trimester schedule.
