I thought the point was just that black people can also be stereotypical evil hillbillies.
How could you tell? The movie was so dark it was impossible to see much of anything during all the underwater scenes

Except the show isn't about sirens at all, it's about mermaids. Sirens are part woman, part bird, and they sing beautifully to lure ships into dangerous waters so they'll wreck.
The only scary thing in this movie is
