A manic version of Little Women

manic - showing wild, apparently deranged, excitement and energy.

From Saoirse Ronan (Jo) running along the street like a possessed woman after she had her first story accepted, to her and Timothee Chalamet (Laurie) leaping around like loons as they (danced was it ?) at the party, to the sisters conducting a rapid fire continuous conversation one after the other with no pause between their speech, to the whole film flitting backwards and forwards in time as though it had been sliced, diced and randomly reassembled. This film could have used more than a few dunkings in the plunge pool to calm it down.

Lol. I think the rapid dialogue was to try to cram in as many scenes from the book as possible without having an excessive runtime.

I wasn’t bothered by the time jumps, but I’m sure it’s confusing for people who have never read the book.

Jo is supposed to be very physically active and somewhat manic and reactionary. But I found it strange how manic Amy was, especially towards the beginning when she and Laurie are running, shouting, and hugging in a public street. Amy is supposed to be concerned about being refined and sophisticated. I don’t think that would’ve been socially acceptable public behavior back then.
