The dad's acting was awful...

Anyone else think so?

A couple that stood out especially (for me) was:

The scene where he asked Quinn to wake up her brother for school and says "I need your help here, I'm drowning! he's ru...running late, ya ya you coulda done this anytime... blah blah"

The scene where Quinn wakes up from her car accident and the first thing he asks is "can you remember anything?" in awkward manner.

Yeah youd expect more from a seasoned actor like him too.

I also thought it was bad acting , but then again I know he is a brilliant actor - 'About Schmidt' anyone? Maybe he hated the role and was in it just for the money... ?

reply

I guess so because I agree that Dermot IS a good actor with a long list of great movies behind him. About Schmidt is top quality, as is My Best Friend's Wedding, August: Osage County, The Wedding Date...

But yeah, he must've taken an easy paycheck with this one. Most of his dialogue here was more wooden than The Bounty.

I agree 100%, i thought the same thing when I watched the movie, horrible acting... and I saw the actor in a lot of movies, I canĀ“t believe he passed the casting!

reply

I thought his performance was uneven. The first scene you mention was cringe worthy bad but he somewhat redeemed himself later.

I would say my memory is not what it used to be. But I don't remember what my memory used to be.

I thought the daughters was horrible. Whenever she was supposedly terrified and should have been screaming for her life....it was more of a moderate yell and maybe someone will hear me. None of it was believable to me. It was actually distracting to me.

reply

Hahaha, couldn't agree more. His acting was so awful it seemed like they cut his lines by the middle/end of the film. Did anyone else notice how he said less and less as the movie progressed, lol.
Man, that's some of the worst acting I've actually ever witnessed. It was on par with that annoying little brother. How the hell did they get those roles, they seriously couldn't have found anyone better!? Ridiculous. I actually really liked this movie, but whenever the dad or little brother opened their mouths it took me right out of the movie entirely.
I'm positive this noticed by the director too, because he was merciful and pretty much cut the guy out of the movie for us. We still had to put up with his over exaggerated facial expressions though.
Where did this guy get his acting card, out of a *beep* Cracker Jack box!?

Cindy, don't just stare at it, EAT IT.

While it's true Dermot Mulroney has never been a shockingly amazing actor, he's just an okay actor and many of the complaints in this thread are about the script and the poorly written lines, which is on the script writer. The actor can't be held responsible for stupid things nobody would say - that's the writing, not the acting.
