Am I the only one who really despised the lawyer?

The lawyer got on my nerves long before he turned out to be a homophobe.

He was intentionally annoying, obviously

Do you mean you wish he'd left the film earlier? If so, I agree with you there too. it's clear they were trying to shortcut the screenplay with a lot of stereotypes, but he was a bit over-the-top sleazy

Though along those lines, I hated the atheist waaaaay more. I actually found it incredible that he hadn't been voted off earlier with all his screaming and doomcrying

Michael Nardelli, co-producer and the actor who played “Eric,” actually said in the commentary that Eric and others like him were secretly protecting the irritating ones like the lawyer and the banker, figuring that, once it was down the last few people, the “jerks” would be the first to go.

In other words, save the weakest for last. Focus on eliminating the strongest competitors first.

Nardelli himself pointed out that it was his own character, Eric, who drew attention to the pregnant woman and little girl. They might not have been singled out otherwise.
