Not that I can imagine Prince singing what would be Huey Lewis' line in the end.

Too into himself I suppose.
Probably, a lot of people took a pass because they didn’t know how big We Are The World was going to be, so he didn’t join in.
It did work out better with Huey though 😎👍

I get the impression that Prince's absence is both the result of his snobbish attitude and his rivalry with Michael Jackson.

Yes, it was implied by Lionel Richie that Prince didn’t want to compete with Mikey.
