How many of you believe in supernatural forces?

Just curious. Personally I don't.

70% of Americans believe in the supernatural. 34% of college grads age 22-38 believe in the supernatural. 99.8% of our prison population believe in the supernatural. 5% of our science community believe.
Believing doesn't make one stupid, but the belief itself is utter stupity.

Unless you count God, those statistics aren't even slightly accurate. They're sure thrown around a lot though.

I believe, because if not, then that would mean that I've had daytime hallucinations and/or temporary psychosis on 3 separate occasions on my life.

Meaning: I've seen people that weren't there. 3 times. And I saw them as "clear" as see anyone. Colors, shades, clothing - the whole shebang.

Most likely explanation is hallucinations. And since I didn't suffer from sleep deprivation, or took any sort of medication or drugs, then the hallucinations were either a) temporary psychosis or b) ghosts.

Since I don't want to diagnose myself as "batsh*t crazy", I've actively chosen to trust my eyes. That, what I saw, were ghosts.

Sorry to piss on your parade, but you be trippen', hoss. You did well using the scientific method...right up until you went with the ghost theory. Temp psychosis is a thing. Ghosts aren't. There is zero scientific proof of anything supernatural. Ergo you imagined it.

I'd much prefer hallucinations. I wouldn't even see them as something terrible, just annoying. Our mind and our brain are very curious things. If you can dream all kind of crazy things, there is no reason to think you can't sometimes "dream" things while awake. Doesn't make you crazy at all.

It's even possible being able to hallucinate has some kind of advantage. Personally I'd be curious about it and test my hallucinations in all kinds of ways.

Believing just because you're scared of the alternative is not a good method. That's how brainwashing works.

reply

No. All of it can be scientifically, logically and rationally explained. There are no mysteries, just greedy scammers making hoaxes about ghosts and similar and banking on gullible people to fall for them.

Take those paranormal shows, where they "hunt" ghosts. It's all a scam.

I hate it when people say that "all can be scientifically explained". Mathematically, we barely know anything about how the world works, so to use "if it can't be explained it doesn't exist" as a reason to dismiss its existence is rather stupid. People said that about "other worlds" before we were able to see into outer space, and look what happened...we found an infinite amount of space with many other "worlds". It's science now, but it was considered supernatural back then. People think we know everything today, but we really don't know much more than we did hundreds of years ago. We are way too egotistical these days, because many people just can't accept that they simply don't have the answers. People like to feel that they have the right objective stance, it gives them comfort.

Think about this. You have a regular 12 inch ruler...you cut it in half again and again...eventually you are going to run out of space...but mathematically the number will never get to zero, ever. That means that theoretically there is an infinite amount of space within the 12 inches of that ruler, and you can apply the same concept with any amount of space, meaning that there is an infinite amount of space that exists in an infinite amount of space...an infinite amount of times. That goes to show how huge we are relative to the amount of space that exists, but also how very tiny we are...the entire universe could simply be an atom that is expanding inside of a molecule.

Then when you get into time and such...if we ever found a way to go back in time...and also taking different alternate realities into consideration...the possibilities of science are mathematically infinite. There is no possible way that things that we consider to be supernatural right now do do not exist. I am not saying ghosts exist in the way we see in movies, but I am rather certain that something exists that we cannot comprehend, some "higher power". I think it is rather naive to say that some kind of phenomena doesn't exist for a fact...as if you know.

Let me get this straight ... you think it's naive to say "that some kind of phenomenon doesn't exist for a fact" (which, by the way, nobody has actually said) but you think it's perfectly fine for you to say that you are certain that some higher power exists?

Are you aware that you're an irrational hypocrite, or are you just doing it by accident?

Only idiots does.
It's only stories around the campfire, that has been passed on for generations.
Everytime you tell a story, it's most likely a little different from the one you were told. Mix that with memory loss, and imagination, and there you have it.

Are you sure, you holy motherf...?

So your second language is absolut perfect with no flaws?
If you can even speak other languages. I doubt it.
Oh wait. Maybe you have studied latin. But you can't really speak or write it that well.

I have a task for you, that is well suited you.

Go to the next gas station, and ask for the key to the toilet. Put something in the door, so you don't shut yourself out while you are returning the key. We can't have that. Make a gloryhole, and get busy sucking.

English is not my first language. Apart from my native language I speak English, German, Spanish and Italian. So why don't you kiss my ass and go to bed.

Only simple minded fools believe in the paranormal. Or religion as a whole for that matter.

reply

Not me.

Not sure how we can even define supernatural when we have no examples of anything existing beyond nature. All evidence currently indicates existence is bound to nature.

I do because it's the truth.

God/Heaven and satan/hell (along with his demons who are fallen angels) are real. after you die here on earth your final destination is one of those two and that's it. in a basic sense... try to avoid sin(with is the help of regular prayer (which is crucial)), try to be decent to others etc and you should be alright in the long term.

demonic possession is real even though it's very rare according to the Church. but playing with Ouija boards and the like is just asking for trouble. nothing may happen, but if it does you can guarantee it's not from God which means it's from hell(and anything from hell hates humanity with a burning passion). so it's sorta like playing Russian roulette, you just don't do it. the Catholic Church is against those things for your own safety.

but when it comes to religion and God in general it seems to pretty much boil down to this for most people...

To one who has faith, no explanation is necessary. To one without faith, no explanation is possible. - St Thomas Aquinas

It's amazing the kind of nonsense you can get people to believe, as long as you brainwash them when they're young enough.

I haven't seen a ghost, but I did hear a ghost in a house that I lived in as a teen. I firmly believe in the paranormal.
We lived in a neighborhood where Victorian era homes resided. My girlfriend at the time lived in a Victorian mansion across the alley, and her parents told me a ghost overturned all their laundry baskets in the laundry room. They were very honest people, so I believe they told the truth.

There are over 250 paranormal investigation groups across American alone, and most of them have reported EVP recordings, and in some cases photos or video recordings as well. For anyone to claim that all of these group participants are liars, would be a conspiracy theory.

Investigation in this area of study is worthwhile, and merits continuation. I'm suspicious of people who get angry over investigations and case accounts of the paranormal being shared with the public. I've asked these angry critics if they also disbelieve in God and the afterlife, and in most cases they admit to that as well.
