How many of you believe in supernatural forces?

Just curious. Personally I don't.

reply

I dont believe it. But this movie must be even more scary for those who believe in it.

reply

I don't believe in the paranormal either, but I always loved watching these kind of movies and reading scary stories. I've been reading hundreds of them the past couple of days on Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/1offae/what_is_your_scariest_true_story_serious/

I'm reading those stories right now, thanks for the link. It's always interesting to hear about creepy experiences when you're not the one involved!

reply

You're welcome :)

Only 55 more stories to go and I'm done reading them all, it's quite addictive.

As portrayed in this movie no but I do not discount that something paranormal exists at all. I have experienced some strange things in my life time which is not always easy to explain.

To make a great film you need three things - the script, the script and the script -Alfred Hitchcock

reply

thats cos you dont have the understanding or intelligence not because it's paranormal

reply

I can't speak to the experiences of the person that you replied to... But, I've seen two full bodied apparitions at two different places. One was a guy dressed in military fatigues that looked like he walked out of my friend's living room wall, and the other was a young girl that was standing in the corner of a completely empty auditorium (save for myself and another person that saw her two. She straight up vanished after about two seconds of looking at her.

Look... I'm a skeptic. 99% of the ghost stories I read, I think can be passed off as something else. But, there's that 1% (including what I've witnessed) that can't be explained by conventional science and understanding. Which, by the way, is the exact definition of "paranormal." So, your statement is completely backwards... It's paranormal because it's not understood, and we collectively don't have the intelligence (yet?) to explain it.

reply

If you think that the things you wrote are actually a rational response, then no, you are certainly not a skeptic. A skeptic would understand that there are many explanations for what you "saw" which do not require the invocation of nonsense. A skeptic would also understand that not being able to explain something does not mean you get to invoke magic.

reply

Maybe he has the intelligence to understand that it is something paranormal and you don't?

I have healthy skeptical reservations, but I'm open minded enough to watch paranormal shows and take into account other people's experiences. I'm not willing to ethically pretend to know everything about life, and/or the afterlife.

reply

Ethics have nothing to do with it.

reply

How would you know.

reply

Because that's not what the word means?

reply

I do. I've shared some of my experiences here on this board.

reply

I believe you, because you're one of the most honest individuals I've met on IMDb, so I'll read your accounts.

I eleive less in the idea that human beings have figured out all things regarding the universe, life, and death. That goes for scientists, atheists, and religious people.

The science text books we have in schools today will be obsolete in 5-10 years. People change religions these days like people change clothes and nothing horrible happens to them. Nothing horrible happens to atheists for no believing, either. That tells me that we don't really know sh!t about the universe; yet each group believes they're superior to the other. Best thing to do is just wait and see what happens next.

If supernatural forces really exist, they don't give a damn if we believe in them or not.

reply

Very well stated, sandifay. Thanks!

If supernatural forces really exist, they don't give a damn if we believe in them or not.

And if they do exist, they probably also don't care what else we might believe in. People who put their hope in the superstition of organised religion to save them and control such forces are like children thinking wolves might prove friendly. Demons would be from outside the Abrahamic faiths.

I don't know that I believe in them, as such But I consider them a possibility, terrifying as it is. I just think they'd be wilder and more savage than the music-hall monsters we can conceive.

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

reply

Well I would say that it was good, but not as good as The Exorcist. However it is by far one of the best horror movie in recent times!

Not before I go to sleep. *beep* it..

reply

I have watched too many episodes of Celebrity Ghost Stories, where people we know come forward publicly to tell their own ghost experiences, for me not to believe. Having said that, I am less convinced that demons haunt houses and people, but I have no doubt that deceased human souls do haunt at times.

reply

I don't believe in any of it. That doesn't mean I can't enjoy movies about the subject.

Anyway, it's well known that the Warrens were frauds. They were old-fashioned ghost hunters and then decided to focus on demonic possession when it became popular (shortly after The Exorcist, I believe). Oh, and don't get me started on those ridiculous ghost hunting shows. How does it make sense to investigate something in the dark?
