plot question

I am not sure if I understand why Langdon stole the Dead Mask?

I get that Zobrist had put a clue on the back of it, but Langdon stole it before he got kidnapped and so before he was acquainted with Sienna and her quest for the virus.

Was it Elizabeth that put him on that trail, and why then go cloak and dagger style? And if so, how did Elizabeth know anything about Zobrist's riddle?

The plot hole about why evil genius didn't just release the virus in an airport is so huge that no one seems to notice another problem:

Langdon is already following clues around, therefore it is necessary to kidnap him, fake a gunshot and amnesia in order to get him to follow clues around?

Why not have him fall off a tower and land in a passing alien spaceship while they are at it? That could provide lots of exciting scenes to film :-).

I am not sure if this is so, but one explanation is simply that she wanted Langdon by her side assisting only her, so she would get to the plastic bag before anyone else... that would explain the gunshot setup, and why they wanted him to be disoriented enough to not really remember that he actually was on the side of WHO.

However, why on earth would WHO be following clues left for the Evil Guy's girlfriend, this I am unsure of.... I dozed off a few times, and so perhaps I missed an explanation for this. And if Langdon is working for WHO in the beginning, why would he steal the Dead Mask? Why steal it at all, the situation surely warranted for close inspection by the damn W H O..

... and also it seems a bit odd that you would induce memory lose in a dude whose memories you need... arh... well, bring in the spaceship Brian.

PS: As I watched it the one oddity I disliked the most, was; "you need two bombs to set off the virus...". And then we see a damn plastic bag, where a knife would be overdoing it... so easy to fix this nonsense in the script had they wanted to.

... and that Langdon seemed ignorant to the Basilica Cistern in Instanbul was face palming. Perhaps the cities most famous landmark for tourists. Clark Griswald perhaps.... but not Langdon.

Yeah. If he wanted it to be release at the pools, he could have just released it when he took it there instead of planting it unless of course he had some way of surviving it, being somewhere else. However, he obviously had zealots that were willing to die for his "cause" that probably would have volunteered. Didn't really make a lot sense.

I just recently watched the movie, but it has been a few years since I read the book. I forget the details but I think the book explained it some. The book also went more into who the guy he was with when they stole it. i forget who he was but there was a little more to his character than just being an accomplice to the mask theft. I think he was a big art dealer or museum expert. He was someone who had known Langdon for a long time.

I just watched it and was wondering about what it was he appeared to be deliberately dropping on the floor after he returned it and left the museum, smiling.

It was the pregnant woman's museum ID badge.
