Alex Kendrick

I saw he was in this playing the husband/pastor of Patricia Heaton's character. Of course, he's that actor/director who made those very successful Christiam-themed films- "Courageous", "Flywheel", "Facing the Giants", etc.. So I immediately thought this must be some sorta religious-themed film. But the first half, it basically plays out like your average fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants comedy, but then turns into that "faith-based" movie you're waiting for-?? LOL

Okay, I would be lying if I said I didn't find parts of this movie amusing. I like Heaton (of TV's "The Middle" of course) and Sean Astin, but the movie overall is sorta lousy. But only a borderline thumbs down.

I don't get it, what's funny about that?

I admit that I didn't like the first ten minutes of the movie (with the talk about her favorite shoes) but the rest of the movie was very good. This movie btw was written and produced by Kevin Downes (the guy who loved playing video games). I liked the Pastor's wife relationship with her daughter. I liked the motorcycle guy Bones. I liked the gathering of many motorcycle scene (cool). I especially liked the tattoo guy with the big hair and sun glasses - he was funny. The other scene I didn't like was the 3 women walking to the restaurant - I didn't see how that is entertaining. This movie wasn't really like one of Alex Kendrick movies - strong in the faith base. It had a Church scene (briefly), motorcycle guy talking to mom scene about God (not long though) which is pretty much it. I purchased the movie when it first released to DVD. I gave this movie a Thumbs Up.

Thank goodness the film isnt as overly preachy about religion like war room is. I do agree bones was a favorite character.

In defense of War Room, its title blatantly describes the theme of the movie -- spiritual warfare. So it's not like it ever tried to trick non-believers or nominal believers. Furthermore, War Room is genuinely inspiring, even life-changing. It had this affect on me and three other people I know who viewed it.

Moms' Night Out, by contrast, is basically a family-friendly comedy with a tip of the hat toward God & love in the last act.

One is heavy, deep and genuinely inspirational while the other is light, not-overly-deep and amusing.

Oh dear.
Faith and/or church was mentioned in the film.
