Justin Roiland Reportedly Had No Meaningful Creative Input on His Shows in Recent Years

Rick and Morty are the only two important characters he voiced. Easy to find a young woman to voice Morty. Maybe some homeless guy for Rick.

A new report from THR claims that Roiland was hardly involved with any of his credited projects, including Rick and Morty, Koala Man, and Solar Opposites. According to the report, "multiple sources say that Roiland, other than voice work, has not had any meaningful creative presence on any of the series that bear his name. In fact, many of his former colleagues say they haven’t heard from him in years, and when they have, it’s been unpleasant."

THR's sources also said Roiland and Dan Harmon, the other Rick and Morty co-creator, have not been on speaking terms with each other for multiple seasons. Many staffers on Roiland's three series say they've never actually met him, neither in person or over Zoom.

The report goes on to say that Roiland apparently stopped showing up at some point during Rick and Morty's third season, avoiding the writers room on rare days when he did turn up. Season 3 aired back in 2017, meaning Roiland's involvement on the series has been wavering for many years. Roiland continued to voice the show's titular characters, but was reportedly doing so from home without taking any direction.

I call bullshit

Wow what a coincidence that the guy they were obligated to fire just so happened to have no input whatsoever on his own show that he produced, co-created, and voiced multiple voices on. They sure got lucky with that one.

THR is a credible source, you're nobody.

reply

I believe 100% that THR printed those words. Doesn't mean it is truth.

How's it feel that a nobody pointed out a massive logical flaw in what you consider to be a credible source? One press release that paints them in the most positive light and you're convinced. Gullible.

reply

Yup.
People do get resentful when others take away something you alone created and it takes off huge. I could see that.
