The Philosophy of Fargo

Every episode begins with the lie that ‘this is a true story’. Why?

Also, the series are filled with random encounters with oddities like UFOs, and S3 features Ray Wise as some kind of Old Testament figure/deity, as well as lots of Schrödinger’s Cat moments.

I like these touches but what is their point? What are the showrunners going for here?

reply

Droochy, these writers are nihilists. There's nothing to read into.

Perhaps but I’m seeing more stuff around fate/chance and divine interventions, more than simple nihilism.

reply

That was a Big Lebowski reference. The Coen Brothers’ body of work is a major influence on this show.

OK not seen Lebowski for time.
