Why not show the murders of Ethan Hawk's family from the first Sinister??

When the kids watch videos of murders i was convinced they would show the murders of the family from the previous Sinister but they didn't, i thought it was weird as it would have been very ''cool'' and have shock value tying it to the first movie.

Probably true. The only connection to this film and the first one is Deputy So-and-so, and the mention of the name Oswalt. My guess: If you show that, you'd have to pay out money to Ethan Hawke and the rest of the family members. Money I'm sure the makers didn't want to do for budget reasons.
