They failed to understand why the books are so legendary

First let me say. The series was not that bad. The problem I have is the show failed to understand what made the Musketeer books to great. It was Dumas use of words and humour that came naturally. Now if you read all the books then you know that there were very dark parts to all the books. But the humour and adventure and swash buckling was jolly good fun most of the times

I realize that most of the stories have been told to a point--but there was a lot in the books they could have used.

For me the series failed to capitalize on the energy of the books and the elements of why for over 100 years Dumas is still so widely read and loved

Couldn't agree more!

I absolutely loved the series, especially the first two seasons. Probably the best take on the Musketeers I have ever seen on TV or Film.

I disagree, I think the actors could have been better casted, especially for the musketeers. The countess is supposed to be this amazing beauty which enables her to connive and win D'artagnan's heart. This actress is a plain jane..

Expect for D'artagnan I am not impressed with the actors playing the musketeers. They are supposed to be these larger than life, handsome characters with great chemistry, wittiness and debonair to the bone. The clever repartes alone, if nothing else, are what make this book such a brilliant piece of literature..The show misses the mark.

You said: "The countess is supposed to be this amazing beauty... This actress is a plain jane." I find the actress extremely sexy and beautiful in this role, but no where else.

I also find the actress ugly. There is something fake about her looks, like how Madonna looks now.
