Did Season 3 have a different writer?

Season 3 was nothing like the other two seasons. It felt very thrown together. Very disappointing.

I'm feeling you - im struggling with S3! Way too many new characters also, feels like no focus and they seemed to have changed characters from previous seasons, and very little King Louis

reply

yes different writers and you could tell. I too was disappointed in season 3. For me the show ended with season 2.

reply

Jup, for me as well.

reply

Yup, me as well. Although it was fun to see the Musketeers again, the whole show changed so much I didn't enjoy it as much as I had the first two.

reply

Loved it; maybe best season of all (but still love season 1). Season two a little dark, and let's admit- has the worst episode of the series (The Good Traitor).

reply

Also has one of the best with Through a Glass Darkly.

The show's creator and executive producer Adrian Hodges left the show after series 2, which explains the different feel to S3.

I thought S3 was OK but prefer the earlier series, especially S1 because it had more humour. The show became a bit too dark for me later on. I also think the writing for d'Artagnan & Constance as a couple was quite poor in S3, with Constance feeling more like his nagging older sister than his lover to me.

reply

Disagree. Season 3 was the best of the three and for once I did not roll my eyes at anybody. For once it didn't feel cartoonish. Action was fast and stakes were high. Louis who was the most cartoonish of the all actually drove some story lines and the whole thing was a great way to go out.

I'm in the middle of it right now. It really feels disjointed and scenes don't flow together well. Still enjoyable but nothing I'd like to re-watch.

I just started in on season three and for me, it's awful -- it's as if, somehow, every main character from the first two seasons is an afterthought. How they can have 50 minute episodes and have no character development, nor feature any of the Musketeers in any meaningful way, is beyond me.

The tone is off also -- so drab, dreary, even depressing. Where's the fun?

reply

Just started S3, watched 2 episodes so far. But the very first thought, right at the very first scene, was "Hmm new showrunner?"...
Not just writing is different, everything is different! Their armors, the dark feel, weird and anoying characters.
But the thing that is annoying me the most: RUBBER SWORDS! It is SO obvious they are made of rubber, you see them wobble and bend all the time! It's pathetic!

I haven't even finished this show yet. I got a couple episodes into season 3 and decided maybe I just wasn't in the mood for the show and would get back to it. Never did. Just wasn't the same.
