People climbing Mount Everest will now have to bring their own poo back to base camp - as experts warn the world's highest mountain has 'begun to stink'
Yes, this was announced at least 1 year ago. You have to understand, that the Everest became a tourist attraction for rich people. It is nowadays definitely the easiest mountain above 8k to get on top because of all the services available. Thus, there is A LOT of trash upstairs and you can't expect the Sherpas to carry the stupid millionaires, who wants to have a nice Instagram picture AND the trash.
Per year they estimate nowadays 800 tourists (most of them definitely unfit for such an event) reaching the peak per year. That is more as other 8k mountains have in total (K2, 2nd highest at around 700 climber). Also most tourist climb in Spring (March to May) and some in Autumn. To reach the peak, you need roughly 40 days, so you can imagine how "full" it is there. Beside the full time tourists, who only plan to reach one of the camps. Reaching base camp already takes nearly 3 weeks and this is a total tourist attraction with up to 500 tourists/day.
