Why was the detective hired to find the girl? The cops knew she had been stalked by the old woman. The old woman the prime suspect, right??

Cops go round to her house and case solved.

But no, the dad hires a private detective. A very stupid private detective too.

Ya I thought the same thing. Forced the plot along without making sense. The cops shoulda been at her house after the Dad and Erica reported her missing and talking to the restaurant workers.
