Brilliant!!!

Old school British humour with a legendary cast. Jokes and mannerisms were hilarious, some will not "get" the jokes as it might not fall into their usual American imported soaps. Already set the box to record the series.

actually it's growing on me. this weeks episode was the best so far. i loved the bit where they're in the club and spot themselves in the mirror and think there's another older couple in the place. hilarious. but i thought violet should have been in it the whole way through, propping up a bar and harassing young men to sit on her lap sounds like her kind of thing. that was the only thing missing in this episode but otherwise it was great

I love it for a variety of reasons. It is funny no matter what others say. It has a terrific cast, not only Jacobi and Mckellen but the legendary frances de la tour basically being an older Miss Jones.

It also has the gorgous younger actor. cant spell his name so wont write it. he is also currently playing a nasty character in game of thrones.

It has a affectionate albeit bitchy partnership between the two older gay male characters. it is great to see older gay men being funny . lively and alert.

The episode where they went clubbing was the best yet. I laughed my head off when freddie said to the younger lads " lets get an old man to buy us drinks". This episode was also very sensitive and heart warming when freddie and his partner left the club

Great tv

Count me in on the "brilliant" team! With such actors, I couldn't possibly find the series bad. And with lesser actors, it might not work as well (many of the jokes and situations aren't exactly new or stellarly written); but McKellen and Jacobi, two of my favorite actors, make superb sparks as the latest installment of the bickering old couple. They are a delight to watch. I think what works best is that the viewer gets a real sense of how much fun they are having working together and relishing every line as if it were the yummiest kind of candy; so I'm having fun with them rather than because of them. I'd love to see them on stage: the way their pleasure contaminates me through my TV screen, I can only imagine how effective that would be were there no screen between us!
It doesn't hurt that Iwan Rheon is great as well. For such a young man to hold his place in scenes with such amazing, more mature and experienced actors, is a true credit to his talent. Well done all!

Despite a promising start, its dive bombed in the ratings. Alas, ITV is not the home of comedy!

I am laughing lots at this, but it's got a really bad set of reviews.

I don't remember the last time I watched an ITV comedy ... they've not really bothered with comedy or drama for years as they've come to focus on reality and soap. With this and Broadchurch, I am a bit amazed.

Hope they're confident enough to proceed with more Vicious.

I will be surprised if this limps on to a second series.

I second that! The series just aired on PBS last night and I could not stop laughing. It's a bit of a disconnect, mentally, since Jacobi is also appearing (on PBS again) in "Last Tango in Halifax", as a totally different type of character--much gentler and quieter.

Iwan Rheon was brilliant as Ash (all those dreadful but hysterical puns on his name!) and really helped to set apart the two aging men, vying for attention, with his quiet bemusement.

Ian McKellan was stellar as the fading star, Freddie: "...all of my fan letters!", he brags. Then Stuart cuts him down with, "You had ONE fan."
Freddie, not to be outdone, counters, "And he wrote a lot of letters!"

My favorite part was Stuart's idea of hors d'oeuvres: a sandwich sliced into 16 pieces and pierced with toothpicks. lol! His comeback to the guest who complains was hilarious, "How about some of what YOU brought? I could always give you a slice of Nuthin'!

Can't wait to see the next ep.!
