Movies u love, but everyone hates...

So after reading some of the reviews, it's obvious GDT is not for everyone...But those who get him enjoy the hell out of it. So, what other movies can u think of, u like, but most other people hate or just don't get...

For me:
- Pacific Rim
- John Carter
- The Tall Man
- Others...

reply

The Gallows
Poltergeist remake
Annabelle
The Purge
Paranormal Activity
Unfriended
The Village
Tron: Legacy
Alice in Wonderland

And some that I enjoy because of how bad they are:

The Wicker Man remake
Catwoman
Batman and Robin
The Happening
Troll 2

reply

I thought the purge was stupid. It just seemed like a rehashed plot. But I was pleasantly surprised on how much I enjoyed it. Just goes to show u. I used to watch all those 70's, 80's & 90's horror movies. Even though some actually withstood the test of time, most of them were terrible. I mean, what were they thinking ? Those troll or critters movies were bad. But now I'll throw them in every now and then and still most parts, mostly because I can't believe they're so bad. Same as what someone else said. Zombie, The Return of the Living Dead, Re-Animator, Crawlspace and others are still cool to watch...

reply

Well, you just took the two I was gonna say. The Village and Tron: Legacy got a lot of unwarranted hate. Both moves had very distinctive design and were very sure of themselves. I loved them both, but most people disagree.

reply

I think we have the same taste, I agreen your list 100%

reply

Haha, I liked the bee stuff from The Wicker Man remake, though, and it's not in the original.

These are some I liked but many critics didn't...

Cosmopolis
The Ladykillers
I Heart Huckabees
Marie Antoinette
Miami Vice
Only God Forgives
Somewhere
Super
Twilight

reply

I hate to admit it, Twilight was so over the top cheese camp. Horrible horrible lines, I mean no one speaks like that, like, ever. Yet, that was movie magic at it's best. It just sucked you in. That little romance they had going on and all that fairy tale mumbo jumbo. Why you could literally hear girls sigh. But dang it was catchy. My daughter read the novels, well I had to as well just to know what happened. Yup, and critics ripped it a new one, mostly.

reply

The thing I like about Twilight is the way the cinematography really immerses you in the town and forests of Forks. You can almost smell the trees. And Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson are likable enough (and photogenic) despite their characters being a bit thin. Oh, and the soundtrack's decent, in an indie-pop kind of way.

Honestly, I don't see why anyone would actually hate that film. The sequels maybe, but not the first one.

reply

You're absolutely right, that movie made me look for real estate up in Washington...

reply

I laughed my ass off at the Ladykillers, and saw some classic Cohen brothers traits, apparently alot of people don't feel the same way, Also agree with Only God Forgives, made me appreciate RG's acting.

reply

I thought Tom Hanks and Irma Halls' performances were both great, I thought the soundtrack's mix of gospel and hip-hop music was very interesting, I thought it looked great, and I thought the plot chugged along at a nice pace with something amusing happening in pretty much every other scene. I don't love it but I certainly don't think it's bad.

As for Only God Forgives, it's a really, really good-looking and good-sounding film and -- unlike some films -- at least has some original ideas to offer.

reply

I love The Village.

reply

I didn't love it, but really liked it actually, as well add The Happening. But absolutely did not enjoy, other than some visuals and a couple of sequences, Interstellar. I thought it was completely overrated and Nolan was high on Nolan.

Highlander II and Super Mario Bros, fantastic movies, they're so special and fvucked up movies. love 'em

reply

Funny, I tried watching Super Mario Bros. with my kids not too long ago...They mostly sat through it and they laughed at a few parts. But all I could think was, "Man, I do not remember this being so bad", I remember it being fun and cool...Haha...

One that jumps to mind is Dune the 1984 version by David Lynch. Virtually all my friends and family despise it. And it's pretty much universally panned on any movie forum where it's mentioned. But I always liked it. I never found it confusing or boring. The cast is fantastic and the sets are pretty lavish.

reply

Cheers to that! I could watch Dune over and over again. The book is just flat out amazing.

I don't patronize bunny rabbits!

Speed Racer. Very ahead of its time.

reply

Oh yeah, I forgot about Speed Racer. Yeah I enjoyed that one too.

People hated Pacific Rim? There may be a very vocal minority of cynical weirdos on the internet who hated it, but overall it was very well received. I've yet to meet anyone in person who truly disliked it.

Bringing out the Dead
Crank 2: High Voltage
Death Sentence
8mm
Halloween III
Last Action Hero
Lost Highway
Reign of Fire

Who hates Lost Highway?!

Ornithologist, Philatelist, Philantropist.

Who likes Lost Highway?!

Actually agree with all of those besides Last Action Hero and Reign of Fire, but anytime someone asks me about what a good movie can entail, I always say there are the people that like Crank and Crank 2 and then people that don't, which category are you? lol.
