Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson?

Seriously?

I've been looking forward to this since I read the book a year or so ago, and this is highly disappointing. I'll still see it, but what could and should be a great character-driven film is now going to be a star-driven film. And by stars that I really don't want to see in the first place; Julia Roberts comes off as pretentious and spotlight-hogging and Wilson has no charisma. I don't like bad-mouthing people, but I wish that if they were going the star route, they would pick others.

Weird choices. Not very keen on them playing Auggie's parents. I was hoping for someone along the lines of Marisa Tomei and Jason Bateman. Roberts and Wilson are a completely mismatched pairing.
Tremblay is perfect though.

I think Julia's fine. Sandra Bullock or Hillary Swank would have been good, too. Or even Jennifer Aniston. Agreed about Owen Wilson. How about Matt Damon, Ewan McGregor, or Dermot Mulroney?

Those all seem good choices, especially Matt Damon would have been awesome to see, in my opinion.

Have a good day!

What about Paul Rudd? He worked with Chbosky in "Perks"

I agree they are really weird choices. Julia is a very cliche choice, and Owen Wilson is just a... Strange choice.

For the parents, I could've seen someone like Amy Adams or something. And for the dad, I don't know. Someone like Sam Worthington or Joel Edgerton.

There is another reason to fill your heart with hatred.

I just saw it, I thought Owen Wilson was fantastic as the dad

I can't bring myself to watch a movie with both of these leads... Having one of them in a movie is bearable, but having both as leads might be too much for me...

Did they actually act as the characters, or did they play their cliche caricature roles?

reply

I thought it was an odd pairing too, but for me, it worked. They had good chemistry and did s really good job with their roles.

I have seen it, twice, and I loved it...coincidence that there's a dog who dies, a la Marley in Wilson's 2009 "Marley and Me" with Jennifer Aniston. Auggie actually had a lot a friends..: his family, including his teenage daughter (Via) and her own best friend (Miranda, who's seen texting him once), and at school, Jack, a girl named Summer and a few others. Jack and a few other the others (even Miranda, but not Summer) get to narrate,as well.... Both Miranda & Via are played by actual teenage girls: Via=Izabella Vidovic, Miranda=Danielle Rose Russell.

THANK YOU for at least SEEING the movie THEN commenting on the characters.

Owen Wilson has done so many "off beat" parts, that I guess people dont want to take him seriously. However I think that he gave the movie a needed lightheartedness, for something that could easily have become too heavy and weighted down.
I happen to like Owen Wilson in the right part, and it was good to see him in something more serious for a change.
I had no issues with ANY of the cast.

Why dont you go see it and THEN report on what you think?
I haven't read the book but the movie has inspired me to read it. A good movie does that!
