Garbage / Merde

Truly a sight to behold. It takes a paper-thin premise from "Candid Camera" (make a strange situation, put someone into it, film their reaction) and produces a charmless, humorless, tedious, unwatchable mess.

None of the segments include dialogue of any kind, just a bunch of awful canned laughter and slide whistles.

It will be on the Comedy Network forever - no one likes it, no one watches it, but it's cheap as hell.

Wow, I guess you're real hoot at parties, huh?

reply

I'm the "Just for Laughs: Gags" of party goers.

reply

Does that mean you are charmless, humorless, tedious, unwatchable mess and don't say anything? Loads of fun you are.

reply

Pretty much.

If it is so bad then why does their google youtube page get millions of views to many of their skits?

reply

The same reason that McDonalds makes billions of dollars: some people will consume anything.

The show has no dialogue because it's filmed in Quebec, Canada. For audiences in both english Canada and french Canada. And no dialogue means they don't have to record two versions of the same show. And because it's Canadian, it'll be on the Comedy Network forever because it helps to fill their legal requirement of Canadian content. As per the CRTC Canadian Content rules.

I have to agree with you to some degree. Very few of their skits are actually funny. Some of them are just an insult to the audience's intelligence.

I miss the Just For Laughs show that had actual comedians on stage. I gave the Gags show a chance. But I've never been a fan of hidden camera prank shows. And this one looks very cheaply produced (cheaper than most other prank shows) with all the horrible music, canned laughter and slide whistles.

Bring back the stand up acts from the Just For Laugh's Montreal Comedy Festival.

I'm sorry but Aaron is right filmed in French or not the premise, the jokes and the laugh track make you want to claw your own eyes out with a spoon.

There's so many better options for "Canadian" shows than this garbage though. Hell, bring back Kids in the Hall, sure, I watched the *beep* out of it, but it's still enjoyable.

Canada?? I was thinking some European country....Canada has to speed things up over there.

Just mute bro

it's actually incredibly brilliant keeping the "gags" so simple and without dialogue,
the show can be sold and air anywhere on planet earth and every segment is easily understood by anyone
