Is this a fathful adaptation of the original BOOK?

And I emphasise "book" because I feel that Disney just ruined Rudyard Kipling's magnum opus with their stupid songs and cheery version... both of 'em.

I seem to recall as a kid.....(back in the 70's)....a version of this tale (animated, mind you).....but it was darker. And it featured a scene which showed Mowgli's wolf father missing a kill on a hunt, and then essentially getting banished from the pack by Sher Khan. I remember it spooking/upsetting me a bit. And I've never seen that version on TV again. DO you happen to recall that version? I'm sure those darker kinds of scenes won't be in this (2018) adaptation. But it's just odd....that there's so many variations on the same tale/book.

I know about this new one, Mowgli, obviously, and the 1960s (?) Disney animated version with the musical numbers like "Bare Necessities", but only recently have I heard of yet another version which may be Anime. I really wouldn't mind finding that one.

As for the animated 1970s version, see if Mowgli's Brothers looks familiar. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0174937/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_125
