2 Questions (SPOILERS!)

1. At the beginning of the movie when Safin gets to young Madeleine's house, why can't she get into the secure room ? it seemed as if the door was locked and someone was already in the room and watching all the monitors. Was Mr. white hiding in there himself ?

2. What was Safin's fixation with Madeleine ? was he in love with her ? else why go to all the trouble of kidnapping her knowing that Bond will now come and possibly disrupt his work at the island

I wondered something similar myself. He rescues her from the ice as a child.

Then... does what? Release her? But then does her keep track of her for the rest of her life?

Presumably because he re-connects with her easily as an adult once Bond becomes a thorn in his side.

How did he survive getting shot repeatedly by her (which I thought was good)? He just "wakes up" from multiple gunshot wounds?

reply

The whole opening was some ridiculous Michael Myers homage. I don't know what the hell the filmmakers were thinking.

I rewatched that part a couple of times, and it would appear that even though she emptied the gun on him he was only hit in the left leg, the right arm, face and chest... based on the location of bullet holes in his jacket and his mask being broken before he hits the floor. Although he jerks around as if he was hit by more shots than that because he was doing one of those jerky epileptic seizure type things as if the bullets were moving his body instead of going right through him.

Now the only place on him that appeared to have caused bleeding was the arm and leg. The bullet hole in the chest of his coat remained void of any blood. So I'm guessing he was supposed to be wearing a bullet proof vest under the coat... that would explain why he was moved by the bullets instead of the bullets just going right through him. Likewise his face wasn't bloody so I'm assuming the shot to his mask was supposed to have been at such an angle that it didn't actually hit his face only broke his mask. The gun in her hand wasn't angled quite right to tell what type it was but in one scene it appeared to be a Beretta 92 or clone of one, so I'm assuming it was supposed to be a 9mm... although when she stands looking over the edge looking down at him the gun in her hand appears to be a different type, frankly in that scene I think they gave her a different gun from the one she was shooting just prior as the slide didn't look the same. I suspect since in that scene she wasn't shooting it that they just gave her a fake gun (maybe that's the type Baldwin should have been given ). The shots didn't knock him out, even the one to his chest wasn't in the right place to knock the wind out of him. I think that was supposed to have happened from him falling from the elevated area where her bed was to the floor below. That could explain why he was not killed by her when she shot him.
