Why do 'DeNiro fans' *beep* all over this film?

I've seen a number of sites and pages on Facebook and other sites were they dog thus movie mercilessly.
How "it's beneath him" yada yada yada.
I saw this for the first time, today. I actually enjoyed it.
It was a lite-hearted, "nice" movie.
It's not the Godfather, but, what else IS ??

reply

He wasn't in "The Godfather". He was in "The Godfather Part II".

reply

If anything they should be upset about Dirty Grandpa.

reply

Amen! 👏

reply

Not sure why anyone would criticize this film or think the role was beneath De Niro. Apparently he didn't think so.
I enjoyed it very much and thought he was the perfect choice for that part. He was the right age to be totally believable.
He was the Hero---solved all the problems.
A little predictable maybe, but a very entertaining movie.

reply

Because it's not a mob movie.

reply

Just because it's better than his WORST output over the last 18 years, it still doesn't exactly make it 'good'... It's not awful, but it is very 'blah', and compared to his meatier roles, is very much beneath him, yes!

"Your mother puts license plates in your underwear? How do you sit?!"

reply

If people think something is good than its good to them. Good and bad is subjective.

reply

I never said otherwise - but the above is my opinion.

"Your mother puts license plates in your underwear? How do you sit?!"

reply

well you certainly don't word things like you understand that.

reply

I don't feel like I need to speak to the lowest common denominator... If you don't like the way I write, tough. I know what I mean. If you want me to be polite to you, you should be polite to me.

"Your mother puts license plates in your underwear? How do you sit?!"

reply

Blah blah blah. At the end of the day DeNiro read the script and he liked it enough to sign on. So what some fan thinks is beneath him really doesn't matter.

reply

I never said that my thoughts on a message board 'matter' - but by the same token, neither do yours - I merely gave them because the topic creator asked.

"Your mother puts license plates in your underwear? How do you sit?!"

reply

This b*llocks is why I have to write imo after every opinion.

Just incase they feel assaulted by my opinion and decide to retaliate -_-

reply

this could be the sequel to the deer hunter. after nam, he leaves that small town for new york city and gets a job printing phone books and leads a quiet life. no more russian roulette

reply

Because DeNiro has gone from being one of the greatest actors of all time starring in some of the greatest movies of all time, to being just another run of the mill, pay check actor starring in dreck movies, that are essentially pablum for the masses.

reply

I think the man just loves to do comedy, and now that he's older he can get away with doing even more crazy roles such as Dirty Grandpa or the Meet the Parents sequels to name a few because like you said.

He's been part of some of the greatest movies of all time so his legacy is already set, and those old films will still be there for fans like yourself to re-visit any time you feel like it.

reply

Fair enough, Meet The Parents was a very funny entertaining movie, no problem there. For me, The Intern was dreadfully unfunny, not a single laugh in the entire film.

reply

I didn't think it was that funny either but I liked some parts like Ben revealing to Jules that he used to run the same building that he's the intern at now, and how his working relationship with her helped her character develop in general as the story progressed. The ending could have been done much better but it is what it is.

The problem is there's no 'greatest movie of all time' anymore. If he's waiting for some great movies to be made, probably he would be dead before that happens.

According to the critics the best movie in 2018 was Black Panther. No kidding. In 1976, you had Taxi Driver... and Rocky, and The Omen, and All the President's Men. In 1941, you had Citizen Kane, best movie that year, but you had The Maltese Falcon too, and Lady Eve, Suspicion, Man Hunt, How Green Was my Valley, to name a few.

Last year: well, Black Panther. Greatest movie of the year. That was it.

To do that, better do The Intern and have some fun.

I agree with what you wrote
