Ghosts aside, this is still dumb...

Forget the X-Files vibe, which, for True Detective, is pitiful. Jodie Foster's character is just...odd. She finds a tongue she believes belongs to a Native American woman. Nobody is missing a tongue at the crime scene. A Native American woman's tongue was cut out in a now-cold-case. Then they find a drawing of the swirl-looking thing...the same drawing found when the Native American's tongue went missing. Even Inspector Clouseau could tie these two things together without committing a single buffoonish error! Numerous people point it out to her. Foster's basic response: "Nah, I'm just not seeing the similarities!"... Ridiculous. Nobody on Earth would act this way for any reason whatsoever.

They even had the most tired of all Hollywood clichés included: the "Jurisdiction" argument between the local police and the FBI! Uggggghhhhhh. It's so tired and used. Just give her the case and quit wasting our time, we don't need the cliché...we know Foster is gonna get the case, she's the star for crying out loud, quit boring us!!

And how about how they portray the bartender?! Yeah, every guy I know would feel used and completely hate a girl coming around for just sex! We'd definitely feel the need to hear about her problems at life/work, and if she doesn't offer up small talk, and only gives me sex and then leaves, oh man, I'm going to really hate that! Yeah right. Virtually every guy on the planet would love this exact relationship. Certainly wouldn't be sour/bitter about not having the talking part. Women...trust me on this one. This subplot is absurd.
