The Birkin purse...

I watched an interview about this movie, (before it came out), and they talked a lot about that BIRKIN bag.
They said that: "the Birkin was like it's own character in the movie".

So then the movie came out, and about that BIRKIN= I didn't think that the purse carried that much weight in the movie, except for the obvious fact that the expensive purse was one of the few "symbols" of Jasmine's wealthy life that was still w/ her at all times.

How'd you see the symbolism of the BIRKIN bag?

She was broke, and couldve sold that for lots of money...instead she kept one last thing that was linked to her previous wealth.

Until the end, that is. When she came back to Ginger's apartment after seeing Danny, she no longer had the purse, or her expensive (probably Chanel) sweater. They were gone. She either dropped them or left them somewhere, which to me signified her giving up. All that time she kept holding onto those "symbols" of wealth, but finally, she was defeated and let them go.

Agreed. Her expression at the very last scene was haunting. On the bench. Great movie
