Not excited to see this. Possible spoiler although everyone has heard by now.

Why are directors determined to ruin their work? It sucks what the reviewers say happened to Shaw. this always backfires to the studio/director. The franchise went down after Hicks got killed off and many other movies (like terminator after T2) and shows have this happen. Already the movie is getting horrible reviews by fans who were waiting for it and box offices prospects look bad. I was so excited for AC and now I don't think I'll see it with this info on Shaw. I once saw a quote by Cameron on the death of Hicks that said something like 'they shitted all over the characters and the fans" and the franchise never recovered. Who the hell wants to see a movie when the survivor that people care about is killed off with no respect before the next episode? And why do they always make it a disrespectful shameful death instead of maybe a heroic death?

You're right! Alien and Terminator both told great stories in their first two movies, but turned into complete filler crap from then on. I've hated the Terminator sequels and lost interest with Alien after the first AvsP movie. Prometheus and Covenant were the final nails in the coffin for me.

reply

Yeah, I don't understand what Ridley hopes to accomplish with these sequels. I've seen Prometheus and Covenant so far and i've gained no new information.

I'm trying to go for an engaging, funny youtube channel so, if you have the time, take a look. Hope you enjoy what you see. Thanks in advance. A review of the movie here-https://youtu.be/fyYgj2Fpur0

Shaw and Hicks had to die for the story to progress. Ripley was never meant to have a normal life with her own family. Shaw was never meant to get the answers she sought after because that's not what the story is about. It's about the alien and how the alien is sought after as a biological weapon.

Well I think the story dies as a result of stupid offscreen, humiliating deaths. The series also clearly fails economically as well as produces hate from fans. Aliens 3 and 4 were box office poison and are regarded as filler. The main vlog sites on YouTube that have been excitedly following every detail of the newest movie from pre production to the premier last week made a total 180 with their reviews of the film....you can tell they were severely disappointed and lost interest and are skeptical about the series even continuing. Everyone who's seen it says nothing is explained or rational in the plot. I'm not saying characters they need to survive along for every movie but at least include them in the next installment and give them a proper, meaningful sendoff.

I agree that I was disappointed seeing Hicks and Newt die off screen and I was also disappointed that Ripley died at the end of Alien3. But I got over it because I realized that that was how the story needed to progress to make another path in the plot. We may never get to see the lives of hybrid alien clone Ripley and android Call after they return to Earth because that's not the point even though clone hybrid alien Ripley shouldn't even be on Earth because she's the ultimate biological weapon. The point is about self preservation of humanity by keeping the alien species away from Earth.

In addition, how do you explain so many who were excitedly planning on seeing this going on a year now (including me) are not even going to bother showing up at the theaters?

reply

I have no idea. All I know is that I'm anxious to see Alien Covenant in a nearly empty theater. It would be like having a theater experience all to myself. Whoohoo!

reply

Haha. Ya that's true. You should go to one of the new luxury theaters that they built everywhere now. They're really nice and not so much more expensive than the old crappy, sticky seat theaters.
