Give up a whole country for one man's life?

Seriously?
I loved this movie, but I think it was just extremely horrid to see the adamant we-dont-negotiate-with-terrorist U.S.A throw South Korea away to save Asher's skin. That is just extremely selfish and plain stupid. No matter how much you love a man or a leader he cannot make up for millions of lives. Better ending he died with dignity - refusing to give up the code that they magically conjured from thin air.

I guess as a Norwegian it's hard to understand, huh? Btw, this is not a anti-U.S.A post, its a stab at the movie - not the country.

The acting president was just buying time to rescue the president.

And I don't think removing the navy ships from the Korean peninsula is really dooming millions of people. It's not like the South Koreans are defenseless themselves and it isn't like North Korea was gonna immediately make their move.

Come on baby play me something

Letting them get those codes and disabling those nukes while in the Silos is sure as hell going to doom millions of people. Probably billions when it's all said and done.

As soon as he saw that the terrorist got even one of those codes he should have sent everything he had into the white house and taken them out at all cost. Including the cowardly presidents life.

Yea and the 80's, 90's B rated cheap movies spreading the American Propaganda all over the world... Just as we thought those days were over. Sigh.. Name of the white house: "Olympus" yea and the president is god Almighty, Zeus.. If they put Morgan Freeman as the real president in the movie at least it would be more acceptable :)

Stupid move, lousy acting, dumb story. This was really just nothing more than the umpteenth ripoff of Die Hard with a bunch of silly patriotic flag-waving garbage thrown in to sell to the masses. Just plain dumb.

Why not? The present Attorney General has used the DOJ to protect George W. Bush from prosecution for "crimes against humanity," even though he has been found guilty by an international tribunal AND a bipartisan House Conference Committee, which officially makes the United States an "outlaw state" under international law. Not to mention, the initial attack on Washington is badly flawed (jets intercepting a possibly hostile aircraft bracket the aircraft horizontally AND vertically, which the vertically-bracketed aircraft far enough behind the target to use missiles or guns to take it down). Nonetheless, the kind of protection the White House DID receive in "Olympus is Down" is what Americans SHOULD have expected on 911; yet, most people readily accept the "official story" and do not question why George W. Bush did not fire, demote or even discipline ANYONE responsible for the successful attack on the Pentagon.

The answer is that even the worst people in movies are better than the BEST officials in government, the military and the financial sectors.

I agree with your statement. If the U.S. doesn't negotiate with terrorists, why do it now? I suspect if something like this happened, there would be a decision to simply not negotiate. The terrorists could simply kill everyone and the issue is mute at that point. The idea that three people have the codes for a nuclear countermeasure, all of whom are sometimes in the same room, is also absurd.

All the folks in the White House, including the Prez, would either be released or dead. The Speaker of the House(sans the V.P.) would lead the government on. There is a clear line should catastrophe happen, and the decision ultimately would be to move on and not destabilize the planet.

I'll agree with the OP. When the terrorist said "We have your Commander-in-Chief", I was waiting for someone at the Pentagon to say "No, you have our former Commander-in-Chief", followed by a massive attack to re-take the WH.

Hey you! Is done by TV cops for foot chases. Real cops don't do this.

That was the only way for the Americans to win at Starcraft.
