Give up a whole country for one man's life?

Seriously?
I loved this movie, but I think it was just extremely horrid to see the adamant we-dont-negotiate-with-terrorist U.S.A throw South Korea away to save Asher's skin. That is just extremely selfish and plain stupid. No matter how much you love a man or a leader he cannot make up for millions of lives. Better ending he died with dignity - refusing to give up the code that they magically conjured from thin air.

I guess as a Norwegian it's hard to understand, huh? Btw, this is not a anti-U.S.A post, its a stab at the movie - not the country.

Ugh.... the point of being a Democracy is that its a peoples Govt, and not a dictatorship.... the Pres is killed you put someone else in....... and move on.

reply

umm usa took millions of lives in response to around 3k americans dying in 9/11

reply

Only in your fevered imaginings.

reply

Another one goes full retard with unsupported claims.

reply

well for me it was ridiculous from the start. Why is the f.... president so important, but Im not American so I thought oh maybe Americans do care a lot for their president and is an American "thing" I could never get, but by reading the replies here, I fell bad for the president, nobody is going to save his a**. lol.

Typos? sorry I'm a foreigner.

and if I should confess my feelings; I love Colin Firth!

Up until Obama was elected, I would have said I doubt anyone in this nation would have even considered sacrificing a nation for the sake of one man, but with this cult we now have, it wouldn't surprise me in the least if those running the government in Obama's absence sacrificed California for the sake of "The One."

This ain't your old time America anymore, it's the new age of arrogance, ignorance, and Juvenal's "Panem et circenses."

reply

Haven't read all the replies, but did Topic starter miss the whole Cerberus plot line? They weren't giving up South Korea for one man's life, they were giving it up to make sure the terrorists couldn't activate Cerberus.

reply

"they were giving it up to make sure the terrorists couldn't activate Cerberus."

Actually I think the issue is that they WEREN'T willing to give it up to prevent Cerberus from being activated

reply

They can't give up California, that is one of the main Liberal states. they would give up a conservative state though. people so blindly follow a man with as much "political experience" as me. He was a state senator for 7 years and a U.S. senator for 4. I was a high school and college class president for 9 years and vice president of academic societies for another 4, so that means I should be good to go for President, although I have to wait before I can run for president a few more years.

reply

Reading this comment after Trump got elected makes me sigh,

reply

Obama would not hesitate to sacrifice millions of Americans to save his own skin. So I suppose we're not supposed to have any problem with it.

ETA: CamdenCooper, please stop pm'ing me. You are now on my ignore list. Don't use a sockpuppet to contact me, either.

Get me a bromide! And put some gin in it!

reply

There you go with your nutty rants, Mary.

reply

Just another major plot hole..

The President is not the man, it's the office - the station or position.

As soon as he is compromised he ceases to be President.

A three part launch or kill code - no one can "order" you to give up the code - not even a President - that's the whole point of three part codes or two launch keys or whatever.

AND.. as a compromised president, he no longer had any authority to give anyone order..

Ye gods.. you could fill this board with the plot holes.. I can't be bothered to types them all in.

You know what else prevents them from activating Cerberus? Bombing the hell out of the white house and then going into that bunker and sweeping up the last few surviving terrorist. No president is worth millions upon millions of lives.

Plus what the hell is up with him giving up Cerberus codes? He should almost be put on trial for that non-sense. The only one with any balls and sense of duty was the lady Sec. of Defense.

reply

Yep exactly. Also I noticed that they picked a small woman to be the one who held out [somewhat] in giving out her codes. What a bunch of feminist propaganda. A small, middle aged, woman would be the first one to break.

reply

Why would the USA give up the prez life to deal with another country's issues.... Also how would you even know if the terrorist isn't lying and still will kill the prez if the usa gave into the demands. I think it could go both ways if it really happened.

reply

That combined with the fact the Asher himself kept ordering his men (& woman) to give in to the terrorist demands when BOTH were prepared to die, as they should of been, to defend their country. LET THEM DO THEIR JOBS.

"Eat it, Twilight."

Ignoring the lives of many others, would you sacrifice the lives of 416,800 US soldiers lives to beat Germany?

Politician: WITHDRAW THE TROOPS!

Also why did the general set the Defcon rating to 4? I mean.. holy *beep* the white house got attacked and the president is a hostage. Set it to 2, or at least 3.
And why did he decide to just ignore the AA?
Its like the whole movie he was intentionally trying his hardest to lose.

reply

Its not war time though. its a terrorist pretty much saying kill one of your own, your most important single person that runs the nation, to save another nation. It is bit different than sending troops to a country to save people or for whatever economic reasons the us needs to be in that nation that people volunteered to do.
