Female Detective Crying All The Time

I'm new to this show, viewing E:1 and finding the female detective crying all the time a bit annoying, unless I am missing something. I hope someone can enlighten me.

In fairness to Ellie, not many detectives of either gender have to investigate the death of their best friend's son, not to mention a good friend of their own son. I doubt she'd really be allowed to serve on this case in real life, at least I would hope not.

reply

Agreed. Her crying all the time is turning me off from the show but I do want to finish it so I'll turn a blind eye and ear when she stars the water works.

reply

She stops crying after a while and just gets angry.

reply

Ha! Well she goes from extreme to another. Since I vented about her crying all the time I'm over it.

I love the show.

The boy who died, Danny, was the same age as her son. They were best friends and so were the families. She had spent a lot of time in his company and his death was heartbreaking for her. And, she was investigating the case too.

If you find her crying annoying now, then it's going to be a bumpy ride my friend. 

reply

I didn't realize all that, but got schooled from someone else. I liked her getting mad better. Olivia Colman is a terrific actress.

She actually cried more than the mother who lost the son. For me the parents grieved for about two seconds then went to the fair, then in series 2 they went around yelling at everyone.

reply

I agree with all that have been said already. She (Ellie Miller) is probably my favorite character from the entire series. She was so genuine to her reactions to everything, unlike Hollywood productions. But the topic of the series is very strong. I'm not talking about the pedophile subject, but rather the one about pederasty. The two are totally different.

reply

Yeah, there aren't any good actors in the US, because they do everything horribly bad in everything they do. smh

Ellies has one of the best acting

I discovered Olivia Colman in Flowers, then watched both seasons of Broadchurch back to back and Tyrannosaur (a great movie, by the way). I think Colman is one of the best actresses nowadays.

reply

Her character is very sensitive and has a problem controlling her emotions. It's easy to make her cry but it's also easy to make her enraged. She can be more aggressive than Hardy. This type of personality is quite realistic, but it's not good for a detective.

reply

Well you better prepare yourself then because I just finished season 2 and she seemed to have been crying on every episode since season 1, episode 1.

reply

I couldn't stand her snarky face for all three seasons. A completely unlikable character and I tried REALLY hard to like her.
