Glad to see this trash heap is going down fast

I have seen Duck Dynasty a total of two times when a neighbor subjected me to it in 2012, telling me how hilarious it was. What was most offensive about it was not the ugliness of these millionaires masquerading as hillbillies, nor the reality show fakery, but the fact that the once-great A&E was broadcasting it. I had not seen cable for a number of years and was not privy to the shift away from cultured programming to these ultra-cheap reality shows that have a shelf life of about five minutes. I remember when A&E used to show plays, operas, and arthouse films and it is a sad statement on modern TV that it (along with The History Channel) are now scraping the bottom of the barrel. Just two years ago you couldn't go in a Walmart without having to dodge the ubiquitous and repulsive DD merchandise. Around December of 2013 A&E successfully managed to turn Phil R's inflammatory and stupid remarks on gays into a freedom of speech "issue". Around that time I used to frequent this board to scan the reactions, mainly because I was really morally and aesthetically offended by the entire program. I applaud the efforts of Ltrazordaddio who has labored tirelessly to expose A&E and its greedy executives who brought us this trash to begin with. Nothing has given me more pleasure than to watch this show become increasingly irrelevant and unloved. I now can walk into a Walmart without bumping into a Willie Robberson cardboard cutout. There is a God after all.

Agreed...

If you deflect the topic of the thread from the show to me, our discussion is over

Ltrazordaddio: there is one element to A&E's marketing tactics you identified in 2013 that I thought quite wise: it is the idea that A&E was whipping up buzz over the show by manufacturing "contrived controversies"--the greatest example of this being Phil R's ridiculously tactless comments I would be willing to wager were themselves scripted. They were meant to be inflammatory, and suddenly the nation was talking about this "garbage show" (to use your expression). Even Colbert devoted an entire segment to it. The left got enraged and the right got a chance to defend this fictional character's right to "free speech". It was all quite a farce, with A&E winning for the moment, but I suppose it was an inevitibility the show would eventually implode on itself once its devotees began to wake up to the con. This board is now a ghost town for fans (or paid shills). A&E doesn't seem to be trying any more. NEXT STOP--CANCELLATION!!

I used to post on a BBS with a lot of professional screenwriters, and pretty much every "reality show" on TV today is scripted. Survivor, the Bachelorette, Big Brother, Americas Got  Talent, and so forth.

One of the things that has caused the great Hollywood Implosion is the fact that people are onto the genre, which has now become more expensive to shoot than traditional dramas or sitcoms.

As much as I hated TV in the 70s and 90s (there were a few shows I liked in the 80s... not many, but some), the production values were higher, and the shows were a bit more honest in the sense that you knew it was all fabricated entertainment.

It's not just Duck Dynasty, but a whole host and several genres of programming that are going to crash and burn.

To me Duck Dynasty, as I have it on right now in the background, is so predictable and scripted that I have a hard time believing anyone would fall for this. But, most people don't have professional media training.

I will say this, the two blondes are hot 

Thank goodness I'm not the only one who recognizes these people as "fake hillbillies." So sad the populace takes their statements as the word of the "common man" just like them...right. I agree, ALL these shows are fake, scripted, etc...if people take it as that, fine. But they don't. Look at past pictures of them. Look quite different, eh?

Why would you want to go into Walmart anyway? They pay their employees crap, almost to the extent that it fits the impoverished population of the southeast region and holding them to their trailer parks and making that stereotype forever true. Unless you break out of that bubble, there is not much to say about the show that brings you right back to your lifestyle.

Better watch out, better start crying. Better hurry up, run and hide. Krampus is coming to town! >:)

I know someone who worked at Wal-Mart making minimum wage, with a maximum of 20 hours a week. Why bother ? I prefer Target. Better Chinese junk, less kids jumping on my legs, asking if I'm their father.

Your friend was likely a bad walmart worker or did not have much availability. I was a good worker and got my hours stacked.

We will never forget the abomination known as Duck Dynasty or the trashy network that spawned it. For the show's tenth anniversary, I proudly bump this thread which completely denounces that trash TV show.

I can't imagine watching this crap, and I don't know anyone who does. A&E, History Channel, and PBS have all gone drastically downhill in terms of the quality of programming they used to have and what they show now.

WHICH IS WHY I SURRENDERED MY TELEVISION SERVICE ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO NOW...I WATCH PHYSICAL MEDIA AND YOUTUBE NOW.
