When's the last time you had to walk out of a movie? This was it for me.

DISCLAIMER:

I love animations, I love kids movies. I saw this with my wife to see if it would be fun for our kids.

We made it through 5 minutes and were groaning.

After ten minutes I wanted to be anywhere else.

After that we walked out.

That's not something I do a lot - hardly ever.

It's one of the movies movies that had a not awful premise but no soul and painful to endure.

I'd even skip it on TV.

Everyone is better off just rewatching Monsters Inc imho.

I've just watched it from its inane beginning, all the way to its painful, clichéd end. How anyone, above the age of 6, can say this is good, just confirms my opinion about current education standards.

My point still stands - HOME is an abomination.

I don't think that's quite true. Those who tend to object to poor spelling, grammar, and punctuation are typically well-educated, intelligent, and curious. The problem is, they aren't really listening to the speaker. They're emphasizing form over function and focusing on the mechanics of communication instead of the message.

LOL, no it happens to be one of the defining differences between conservatives and liberals. Look it up. It's a famous study, being among the first to find actual internal brain differences in how conservative/liberal brains perceive the world.

But then, perhaps you think all us billions of liberals have "simple and narrow minds". :)

His use of "its" is correct. The word "it's" is a shortened version of "it is". When calling someone smug and pretentious and call their grammar into question, at least make sure it's correct (see how I used the shortened version of "it is" there?!).

Since he bothered to edit his post (fixing the it'ses), you should also edit yours acknowledging the fact your reply is no longer valid. That really would be helpful, and it would no longer be an issue of anyone helping themselves.
My own post is slightly aggressive, only because you added that final “Couldn't help yourself, huh?”. If you hadn't, there would be no reply from me.

Actually, the user was correct with their use of "its." An apostrophe is commonly used to show possession, but not with "its." It's is "it is," whereas "its" shows possession - so when the user describes the movie's attributes using "its," he or she is correct.

I agree it would have been better if Oh had actually died,... I'm tired of movies where everything works out and everyone is fine and everyone lives happily ever after,....

You might be tired of that, but the little kiddos that this movie was aimed at are not tired of it at all. They want happy endings. They want to feel good about themselves and about the world. A story in which the characters grow and everything turns out all right for everyone in the end, especially one concerning love, friendship, or family relationships, is on-target for this crowd. And they can watch the same type of story over and over and over and not get bored by it at all.

How to train your dragons 1&2, which are 10x better than this movie, would like to disagree with you.

reply

I loved How to Train Your Dragon 1 and 2, but it's aimed at an audience that is older than Home is. And yes, even though it's a bit old for them, many younger ones enjoy this story as well. That does not negate my earlier statement. Even when a young child may enjoy a more mature and darker story such as the trilogy of Dragons, they lap up the age-appropriate story where everything turns out well at the end. And even with Dragons, if the ending wasn't "happy" with a feeling of victory and resolution, the younger crowd wouldn't have liked it.

The preference and taste can be likened to diet. Young kids are quite happy with the predictable for their staple movie choice.

reply

just my two cents, but i loved this movie. i have kids ranging from 4 to 15 and have seen my fair share of animated and kid friendly movies. This was for me very well done and memorable. I especially loved the voice acting, and the animation. Very well done. Home and Big Hero 6, are the most recent standouts for me. inside out for me was one of the worst. the MOST over convoluted plot ever. i almost walked out on that. Im not to be understanding all the hate. lol.

reply

That's because you apparently have absolutely no taste and/or brain cells.

This is the type of immature retort that comes from those who expect everyone to share their tastes and perceptions. No, the poster who does not agree with you is lacking in neither taste nor brain cells. One size does not fit all. And yes, I just implied that you are immature. That was a crappy and childish response you gave to a stranger online.

I just feel sad for you, that you were unable to appreciate and enjoy this film. I don't see the fault lying with the film, but with the movie-goer. Sorry.

Last time (and probably only time) I walked out was watching Whiplash.

So you have *beep* taste. Cool.

reply

Are you insulting him? Please discuss the movie.

reply

I have never walked out on a movie in the theater. No matter how bad it is I still just sit through it.

While I didn't like it a ton, I will say that it does start off looking a bit dumb. While it is quite dumb, it does get better as it goes on and it's not too bad actually.

This is a wonderful family movie. The cast of voices was moving and intelligent. Kept my family and I laughing in enjoyment throughout the whole movie. This is a quality family movie with a quality cast. It has an intelligent and creative plot and is just plain fun besides. It is rare to find a supposed family movie that entertains without introducing way too much sarcasm and adult content. This movie brings back the refreshing feel of wholesome and wise family entertainment. Thank you so much everyone who put this film together. I do not really understand why some people feel the need to bash this movie. Maybe they are too jaded. If they do not like it - fine! They are entitled to their honest and respectful opinion. No need to be rude about it. :)

reply

I agree, and What gets me, Cactus, is that they can't even be specific about what they didn't like about it.

If you're going to bash a movie, you'd think you could be specific about what you didn't like.

For the record my family enjoyed the aliens backward strange dialogue, and his colorful excitable behavior. We enjoyed the chubby cat with his spiral tail. Also seeing a darker skinned curly haired girl wearing tomboy clothes, not your average dress-wearing fair skinned blonde girl you always see in these films. I liked the little moral messages of family, and not running away from trouble, or lying to others, helping eachother etc.

It was a sweet funny touching film that was quite unique from the norm, and our family appreciated that.
