An enjoyable little mystery

As a big fan of Agatha Christie and ITV's Poirot show that ran for 25 years with David Suchet, I always enjoy a good British mystery. Last night I watched The Lady Vanishes and found that it had what it took to scratch the mystery itch.

It may be helpful that I have not seen the Hitchcock film of the same name to compare it to, but taken on its own merits I really did find this one to be a fun little mystery. I thought it was well-shot and acted, had a great setting with the luxury train, and the mystery itself felt fresh and intriguing with a satisfying conclusion.

Tuppence Middleton is also very attractive and does a great job, though in her character also lies my one real complaint: As the story goes on, she becomes more unlikable. Ironically, even though she is going out of her way to help someone else, she still somehow manages to come off as increasingly self-centered. However, this is a fault of the writing rather than her performance. They should tweaked the script a bit to give her character more of an arc.

I really think we need more luxury train mysteries. Those old trains are just such a romantic setting for stories like these.

More luxury train mysteries? Iā€™d like that, as long as they are set in the 1930s. šŸ™‚

Oh yeah, for sure, I don't want anything set in the modern day! This kind of setting definitely is only at home in a period piece.
