He engaged the first guy in the hallway in hand-to-hand combat and *then* shot him. Why engage an armed man in hand-to-hand combat? Why not just shoot him and the other guy straight off? He had the drop on both. I guess they just wanted to shoehorn in another hand-to-hand fight sequence.
