Absence of Hitch's charm , energy


Thought Toby Jones did a very solid job here but something was missing, maybe in the script itself. Jones always seemed stiff and slow, which Hitch had - but he also often had energy and whimsy. Here he was mostly brooding, and his humor was typically meant to unsettle people. That's a limited view of the man, which made the film seem kinda slanted against reality.

Yes, The Girl really lacked the real humour that Hitchcock had. It seems Hitchcock had more charm than it was showed in the movie. Anthony Hopkins did a better job in the movie Hitchcock.

Have to be very careful with tone in a film like this. Make him too fun and it looks like you're saying, "Aww, he wasn't that bad", which would undercut the entire point of the film.
