A decent crime drama....and a channeling lead actor....

This six-episode crime drama of a cold case murder investigation is pretty good, even though it utilizes the too-often cliche of a damaged detective fighting his own demons (if it's not a drunk, sex addict, work at the expense of family, or some or sort of defect, this overused cliche needs a bit of a rest).

Anyway, I enjoyed the acting of the lead quite a bit. Not only that, Travis Fimmel looked and acted just like a blending of Val Kilmer and Charlie Hunnam and at times seemed to be channeling them both.

Now, one great trait the creators did employ well was having a detective that utilizes silence well when interviewing people.

Clearly, if ratings are good enough there will be a second season.

Yes, agreed...the "damaged detective" became a cliché.
While his background story serves the plot.

Strongly disagree with what you said about Travis Fimmel.
He has his very own actor personality.
As Ragnar in the Vikings or as Marcus in Raised by Wolves.
To name just two of the many productions in which he took part.

Somehow Australian and New Zealand series/movies have a special atmosphere.
What the corn fields are to Stephen King are sugar cane plantations here.
Burnt sugar canes cause Black Snow.
And this slow paced crime story is anything else than just a murder of a teeny girl (as someone else said). More people die. The drama of a small Australian town enfolds and the families involved, with many twists over a period of 25 years.
Portrayed by great actors.
Nicholas Hope has only a short appearance as the imprisoned father of Travis Fimmel.
But what an appearance. *shudder*

Yah, I would be very happy if there was a next season.
Well, Travis Fimmel also has his own rhythm...we'll see. ☺
